1. I don't like buying things via the Internet: can I pay by cheque?

The short answer is yes.

We do accept payment by Sterling cheques (made out to "Southwell Books"). Don't forget to include the cost of postage with your order. You can easily work out the postage cost by using this website - click the "Add" button next to the book title on the product description page of each item. You will then be taken to the "My Basket" page and the postage is automatically calculated (you can choose First or Second Class if you are in the UK). You do not need to give your name and address or any card details to do this. Please note that we have a minimum order level of £5.00 and are unable to accept cheques for less than that.

Send your order to: Southwell Books, P.O. Box 547, Abingdon, OX14 9DR.

2. I have entered all my contact information and card number etc., but the SagePay payment system is not accepting my card. It's saying "Order Failed".

Check that you have correctly typed your email address when entering your details. The payments system will only accept correctly formatted email addresses. Through hurried typing, some customers have been adding spaces to, or missing out characters from, their email addresses without realising it, and the Protx system doesn't like it! Remember, you can always place your order by phone (01235 521224) if this is easier for you.

3. I live in the United States - your website doesn't seem to accept US Dollars - can I still place an order?

Yes, you can.

The other currencies shown on our website are for guidance only. All items are priced in Pounds Sterling (British Pounds). If you order online (or by phone), your credit card will be charged at the US Dollar equivalent by your bank or credit card company (using that day's exchange rate). We receive Pounds; you pay in Dollars - simple!

4. Do you ship to the United States?

Yes we do. See our answer to 3. (above).

5. When I enter my credit card details, a new window opens and I'm asked for another password or PIN number. I can't remember what this is/I've never heard of it before.

The easy solution is to phone us (01235 521224) and give us your card details that way. We will process your payment manually.

The reason why you are being asked for a separate password or PIN is the fault of VISA and Mastercard. They have introduced schemes called 'Verified by VISA' and 'Mastercard Secure Code', respectively. In order to accept any VISA or Mastercard payments online, we, Southwell Books, have been obliged by the credit card companies to incorporate the relevant technology into our payments system. So, if you have previously signed up for either of these schemes, when you come to pay online, you will automatically be asked for your password or PIN. If you haven't, just ignore the request and proceed as normal. A word to the wise: you are not obliged to sign up for these schemes in the first place, but once you have, they've got you! If you cannot remember your password or PIN (a very common occurrence in our experience), please phone us - we can put the payment through without it.

6. Do you accept PayPal?

Yes.

As of September 2009 we have incorporated PayPal as one of the payment methods we accept. You will need to have a PayPal account already set up. In the Shopping Basket simply click on the "PayPal Express Checkout" button bottom right and follow the instructions.
