New Testament (Clementine Vulgate and Rheims Version)

Synopsis:
Latin and English, side by side. Suitable either for students of theology and the Scriptures, for those studying Latin, or just for Catholics who wish to conduct themselves according to the mind of the Church, this edition brings together two classic versions of the Bible which have served Catholics well, down through the centuries.

Further Information:
The Vulgate of St. Jerome, Doctor of the Church, translated into Latin from the Greek and Hebrew originals, corrected and standardised following the Council of Trent and promulgated by Pope Clement VIII (hence 'Clementine') in 1592. The Rheims version of the New Testament was first published in 1582 and revised in c.1750 by Bishop Richard Challoner. By no means the first Catholic translation of the Bible into English (that was done centuries before in the eighth century by St. Bede the Venerable), but probably the longest used over the centuries, and the officially sanctioned English translation of the Bible of the English and Welsh Hierarchy for many years.

The Latin and English versions are presented side by side on each page (in the same format as a Latin-English missal), clear typeface, satin ribbon marker, burgundy coloured bonded leather cover.
